Boys State (2020)
9/10
a potent mixture of hopeful and disheartening
11 December 2020
An odd and hilarious experiment: bring together hundreds of 17-year-old Texan boys and have them create a democratic government from the ground up. The handful of boys that rise to the narrative's surface are better characters than most any of the fictional ones in 2020. The events that follow are a potent mixture of hopeful and disheartening, as we see the foibles of the American political machine infiltrate the otherwise noble desires for goodness and equality.
