As a child this was one on the big mainstream comedy shows that drew in big audiences so you cannot just dismiss it as it was important, but it has to be said that it hasn't aged well and recent repeats clearly show that it was of it's time.
There are a few classic sketches but generally this show isn't funny and quite often cringeworthy by modern standards. Even excusing the outdated language and attitudes it really wasn't very funny and I think it's getting a high score on IMDB purely down to nostalgia and not quality.
It shows perfectly why the new wave of alternative comedians appeared and were successful during the 8Os and 90s. As important as this show was it should left back in the 70s.
