Warning: Spoilers
I get the trading places bit is like the prince and the pauper. Difference here is the identities of the 2 girls is known, the switch isn't something planned by the 2 girls. And neither girl is really forced to change who they are. In fact, it's the supporting characters who undergo changes. Even the directors of both camps change dramatically from the beginning of the movie to the end of the movie. Those in Camp Rock go from having a negative view of the members in Camp Royalty to appreciating the fact that their different and that's a good thing. And those in Camp Royalty have a negative perception of the members in Camp Rock in the beginning of the movie. Towards the end of the movie the members of Camp Royalty hope to save Camp Rock. A strong bond between both camps is created through both cooperation and the realization that both camps are more equal. Generally, it's the leads in the other. This Barbie movie is pushing the narrative that though we're different we can cooperate. Neither camp wishes ill of the other camp, so the cooperation is an effort to save both camps.
