Star Wars: Rebels: Ghosts of Geonosis: Part 2 (2017)
Season 3, Episode 13
9/10
Geonosis Genocide
19 October 2020
This builds on the first episode and adds further depth to the character of Saw Gerrera as well as adding layers to the story of the Death Star's construction and the building of the rebellion.

Rogue One was an awesome movie. Like a bleak war film such as A Bridge Too Far where the heroes face impossible odds in gritty, thoughtful mix of action and drama. Viewers who want non stop spectacle might have not been satisfied but those who, like me, enjoy deeper, darker, grittier material should find it the nearest thing to Empire Strikes Back we have had since that 1980 pinnacle of Star Wars genius. (Plus you need to be pretty much without a soul to not be thrilled by Vader's scenes in Rogue One). This story has added a nice little background to that superb story. A prequel to a prequel.

The action is pretty standard but it is the touches to the overall arc which make this stronger along with the dark ideas of genocide helping to motivate a rebellion. A cleverly balanced reference to the horrors of Nazism and the start of World War II which is powerful without being cheap or offensive in referencing such real life atrocities.

My rating: 8.5/10.
