Lady Parts (2019)
10/10
Smart, funny and prescient
14 October 2020
I watched this as part of a block of comedy screenings at the Satisfied Eye International Festival and it was definitely the film of the afternoon. It clearly resonated with the audience who gave it a spontaneous round of applause at the end credits. Held together by a pitch-perfect performance by the lead actress Erin Rye, it's an at-times painfully funny dissection of the sexism inherent within the film industry (and indeed every workplace). The biting script, laced with sharp humour and the accomplished directing make this a brilliantly-observed film that is brimming with both style and substance. And to top it off, it's bookended with a real ear-worm of a song-and-dance number that probably shouldn't be as catchy as it is!
