6/10
A film that doesn't discuss its own theme
9 October 2020
There are unfortunately very few good things that I can say about this movie. I decided a 6 as rating because above all there aren't many big problems that would force me to call it bad. It's a perfectly enjoyable movie, it doesn't have enormous flaws and I'm sure some might find it a nice personal experience. Unfortunately that's all, there is literally nothing else good enough to be worth mentioning. Now I'm referring to aspects such as Direction, Screenplay, Acting etc. that are nothing to be taken example by, it's not a movie that will be studied in cinema schools or that will be an inspiration to future cineasts. But now let's talk about the themes, that seems to be the main focus of the film. Well...there are no themes. As you will know from the trailer, everything starts when a jewish doctor leaves a neo-nazist man to bleed in his car, so It's fair to assume that the focus of the film will be Neo-Nazism, the concept of hate, of intolerance, an interesting, as much as contemporary issue. Unfortunately that's not the case. The rest is simply....things happening, people meeting people, someone gets shot, all without an apparent connection. I don't know if the director's intent were some sort of neorealism interpretation, but even so, it's a little disappointing to go see a movie who supposedly was to follow the way of American History X, and ending up with an empty shell of nothingness instead.
