Hostages 2: Bigger and better!
9 October 2020
Hostages 2 is a taut racy thriller that exceeded my expectations. The show is a major improvement on its predecessor in terms of pace & screenplay. It relentlessly delivers the thrills with just the right amount of twists & turns to keep you engaged throughout. To its credit this season doesn't drag as the earlier one inspite of having 12 episodes.

It all starts with Retd SP Prithvi Singh & his gang planning to move to Nepal with CM Handa but are followed by CM's assistant Subramanian. They all eventually end up in an abandoned old bungalow in unforeseen circumstances. The bungalow is surrounded by the police force & commandos. The hostage drama begins & Prithvi has a task cut out to save his family & get out safely. This time around we are introduced to a lot of new characters & sub plots. At times you feel there is a lot of stuff happening on screen but thankfully it has been stitched together neatly.

All the roads lead to man at the centre of it all- Prithvi Singh played by Ronit Roy who is in terrific form. This has been a great role for him & he doesn't let go the opportunity. Let's talk about other performances that manage to stand out. Divya Dutta is excellent in the role of Ayesha Khan who negotiates with the kidnappers. It was great to see the lovely Kanwaljit Singh in the role of ATS chief. Amit Sial gets a meatier role here & is brilliant as Peter (Morgue incharge). Dino Morea surprises & delivers his best performance yet as a cold blooded assassin. Shweta Basu Prasad gets a major role to play but goes overboard at times playing an intelligence officer.

The captain of the ship this time is Sachin Krishn & one must say he has done a great job in delivering a fast paced gripping thriller. I personally feel this season is better & edgier than the first one. My only complaint is with the ending which was a bit underwhelming though it created enough room for another season. I strongly recommend this one to those who have watched the first season & also to those who haven't. You won't be disappointed! Streaming on Disney Hotstar.
