Giant robots descend around the world and also two naked aliens, one of whom must decide whether earth should be destroyed or is worth preserving by getting to know what people are really like. The alien has only one day to do it! Not an exciting film even though it has a ticking clock kind of plot and the acting is not engaging. C. Thomas Howell gave his usual dour performance. I liked the look of robots though (strangely called 'megaliths' by most of the characters) but they didn't do much.
Based on but far inferior to the great 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' from 1951 it was still better than the dire 2008 Keanu Reeves version.
