The Power (1968)
6/10
great final battle

Professor Jim Tanner (George Hamilton) runs a research program in San Marino, California testing human endurance for the space program. Professor Margery Lansing (Suzanne Pleshette) works on genetics. Government liaison officer Arthur Nordlund has arrived to check on the team. Professor Henry Hallson seems to be going mad and claims that someone has filled out a questionnaire with superhuman abilities. He is murdered soon after. Tanner investigates but is met with mysterious hurdles.

I don't know what it means to fill out a questionnaire that shows someone has supernatural abilities. I also don't understand why this person is both hiding but also revealing in abilities. The paper should not be spinning unless he couldn't control his powers. That's not issue which makes that scene rather convoluted. For most of this movie, the story telling is clunky. It should have been a good supernatural murder mystery. There is no good whodunnit since only Hamilton and Pleshette are the only ones given much shine. There is an awkwardly funny party with a lot of old white people dancing. It's all very clunky and there isn't much supernatural powers shown until the final battle. It seems like the filmmaker throws all of his imagination into that fight. It's fun in representing a mind battle despite some of the cheesy special effects. That final fight saves a rather boring and clunky sci-fi movie.
