It was made along four years split in three stages, the first in 1965 on early scratches just with Harvey Keitel who has been contracted through a newspaper advertisement, when the lack of money ceased the project, the second step came out when they hiring Zina Bethurne to play the girl, hereinafter the plot became really wraparound to be sold for someone, then appears the producers that want a peppery presentation, the they added a famous sequence when Harvey Keitel was surround of naked girls at bed, the first part sounds as a home video, aside Martin Scorsese had a strategic plan and all storyboarding, dialogues, his directorial assistant Mardik Martin states that 80% of the dialogues came from Scorsese's screenplay, also has no budge as such, many members of casting never receiving nothing, they did just for fun, just Keitel and Zina make some money on parcels by the way, the moving camera imposed by Scorsese was noteworthy, including minimalist close ups largely applied on movie, further asserting some connection with the Scorsese's roots in Italian tradition on Virgin Mary at Catholic church in a profane tone, anyway the young director got good reviews that boosted his career, nice offer from the master!!
