THE OATH is a slow and unfocused Icelandic crime drama that's got a lot of ordinary stuff going on and very little that could be described as special. It's ostensibly a crime flick about small-time drug dealing, disappearances and kidnapping, but all of this doesn't really take place until halfway through the running time and until that point it's all very mundane. The characters may be realistic but they don't hold the viewer's attention and the interest level falters as the running time goes on and on and on.
