Review of Thumbelina

Thumbelina (1994)
7/10
Almost conventional Disney animation, but with sexual harassment
29 August 2020
The story of the tiny singing clumsy girl who wants to be a pixie princess does not differ too much from many other Disney fairy tale adaptations. You will see elements of many other films, particularly Little Mermaid (perhaps because Hans Christian Andersen commited sort of self plagiarism...). Animation is good, but the story is just ok... Characters are not bad but not as remarkable as the ones in other Disney classic movies either. However, the most unique (and weird) feature of this film is that in no other animated movie from Disney you will see something close to this level of sexual harassment. There are many situations of this kind throughout the film, from the time the prince knows Thumbelina to the behaviour of other male characters towards her.
