Cringe for the future of science
25 August 2020
As someone who works in biopharmaceutical development I cringed so much I looked like an epileptic kid watching Pokémon. Sure the evil Machiavellian researcher, nerd students, dumb blonde stereotypes were cute. Sure it's a TV show so it gets a pass portraying processes that take months and hundreds of thousands of dollars to accomplish as something kids can do in a trailer. However the lack of privacy, training and subject consent grossly mislead there public to think research is that simple and reckless. In the age of "if it's on TV or the internet it must be true", this is the type of stuff that prompts resistance to scientific progress. If you already got stung by the "Biohackers mosquito", be sure to take your antidote by watching Netflix docuseries "Unnatural Selection."
