Boys State (2020)

The kids are alright, it's the system that needs an overhaul
23 August 2020
Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine's 'Boys State' documents thousands of Texan boys as they participate in the American Legion's 2018 Boys State camp where they got to learn about American democracy by organizing political parties and running a mock government. In a tone that is at once bleak and optimistic, frightening and hopeful, the documentary works as a strong allegory for today's political climate - in all parts of the world, but, of course, especially in America - offering up the nuanced notion the system needs to be turned upside down, and only the younger generation can do that.
