Lucifer: It Never Ends Well for the Chicken (2020)
Season 5, Episode 4
Necessary episode with pacing and directing issues
22 August 2020
This episode is crucial to giving a backstory to Lucifer's ring and setup for future motivations for Maze, so I respectfully disagree that this is a filler. Yet objectively, this is the lowest-rated episode of the entire series (till now), and I find the issues to be pacing and directing.

Some scenes drag on for far too long, for the sole purpose of exposition of side stories. Some long dialogues have neither backing music nor ambient sounds. Lilith has two songs in one episode! Not that I dislike Lesley-Ann's singing, but having the time to accommodate two full songs in one episode sounds wrong.

Next has to do with the direction. Many shows have "fun episodes" every now and then. Usually in these episodes, besides having great fun, the cast gets to shine, to be different, to show off their range of acting. Yet here, except for Amenadiel, they are more or less their usual selves. Perhaps even, a more boring version of their usual selves. They kind of left the fun in their Instagram/Twitter BTS, having barely any of that in the episode itself.

That said, I was overjoyed when I saw the Guest Starring. I suppose I shall refrain from giving this episode a rating.
