Uncovering the "Cyber Cash" Scam

Warning: Spoilers
Douglas Howell was a detective working undercover to expose malfeasance in what appeared to be a legitimate business called "Cyber Cash." After Doug was murdered in a bakery while picking up a cake for his daughter's birthday, his wife Sophie, also a detective, took over the case, infiltrating the Cyber Cash operation in the guise of an accountant.

Poor little Chloe ("Sweet Pea") Howell is the asthmatic daughter of Doug Howell from a previous marriage. Now, Sweet Pea must deal with the loss of both her birth mother and her father. Both the step-mom Sophie and the little girl's grandmother provide loving support to the child who undergoes successful bronchial "thermoplasty" in a risky, three-treatment procedure.

A flaw of the film was in the depiction of the Cyber Cash operation. It was not clear what all of the workers were doing in what should have been a mom-and-pop operation. Why did they even need an office? Clearly, the books have been cooked, and the diligent Chloe becomes especially suspicious when the brains of the operation, Ryan Muir, dies when his car explodes.

My favorite character in the film was the private investigator Charles Gagnon, who adopts a number of disguises as he too looks into the shady dealings of Cyber Cash. Charles has Chloe's back at just the right moment in the film. There is unfortunate collateral damage when "Uncle Sam," the close colleague of Doug Hall, is killed by the unscrupulous villain.

While there were far too many characters and several extraneous scenes, such as Chloe's "mountain-climbing" exercise, "Who Killed My Husband?" ("Under Fire") had a good central character in Chloe and the strong motivation of the heroine to succeed to preserve the memory of her husband to protect her little Sweet Pea.
