Hollywood soap
7 July 2020
Mary Evans (Constance Bennett) with her Hollywood dreams works as a waitress at The Brown Derby. She spots famous drunken director Max Carey and takes over as his waitress. He takes her as his companion to his new movie opening. She plays along and becomes the new IT girl around town. She quickly becomes a contract star and wealthy playboy Lonnie Borden falls completely over her.

This is directed by George Cukor and produced by David O. Selznick. It's soapy, pulpy, and their vision of Hollywood. Constance Bennett is playing a ballsy dame. The problem is that her character doesn't really change over time. It's not great cinema but it's interesting enough.
