..except for one plot point that had me a bit confused, exactly how and when does one get to the ruins anyway? At one point it seems all one needs to do is just take a short walk into or out of town?
Other than that, this series was perfection; just when I thought this was going to be Misery Beguiled, it twists and turns into something else again and then again; the religious aspects are not intrusive, seeming more universal and almost pagan; characters are not who you think they are, then they are, then they aren't, and the whole story comes together perfectly at the end.
