The Automaton (2019)

authentic old western feel touched with sci-fi of a bygone era
23 May 2020
None of the slick polished feel of the enjoyable modern Cowboys & Aliens type of western sci-fi in this production, which has a 1960s production feel. As though the producer, director and actors traveled back in time to produce this little gem. The suffering of the widow, her unlikely source of comfort, and the busybody neighbor are all what one imagines would truly have been the norm on the western plains, and yet, this has all been done before and could feel redundant if not for....the incongruent addition of steam punk technology, which adds a totally unexpected twist and a delightful macabre ending.
