Bheeshma (2020)
7/10
A fun one-time watch

Every once in a while, a movie comes along that doesn't have a sensible plot, has mostly terrible dialogues but you still watch it because it's fun. Bheeshma is such a movie. For the first 15-20 mins, you will cringe at its jokes and sigh at the plot, but the movie will take you along for a ride because its so silly its fun. The director acknowledges that it isn't some thought provoking movie, and directs all his energy towards making you laugh at the silliness of it all, and it mostly works. There are some other positives too, like the character of the heroine is pretty decently written, and not some dumb beauty you'd expect, and Rashmika Mandanna is a charming actress too. The movie talks about farming in a pretty sensible way, and isn't just trying to gain emotional mileage from showing agriculture like some other movies. I'm glad it gives so much importance to organic farming.

I had just one qualm from this movie- at least now we can move away from the concept of the hero hitting 10 baddies casually? The fight scenes could have had a better choreography and just a bit more realism to it but I guess that's asking for too much.

All in all, do watch this movie if you are in mood for something lighthearted and fun and can bear some cringe. It will not disappoint you.
