A Decent Road Trip Drama Comedy

Warning: Spoilers
Breaking for Whales is a drama about Brandon and Star, a brother and sister on a road trip in order to fulfill the terms of their late mother's will. Unless they do what she requested they will get nothing and they are both desperate to improve their financial situation. Their mother was a free spirited hippy who was obsessed with whales and her last wish was to have her ashes fed to a whale. The rest of the movie is about Brandon and Star trying to fulfill their obligation and possibly growing closer together as siblings. Along the way they meet various characters such as the ultra conservative Aunt Jackie and Uncle Randall. Star also definitely has an obsession with George W. Bush and Brendon may or may not be gay which sees to be a point of contention between the siblings.

The acting is good all around and most of the jokes work with some being much less subtle than others. There are times when the movie feels clunky with overlong scenes and a few times when the humor feels pushed and dated though, but Tom Felton and Tammin Sursok both do well in their Roles as Brendon and Star. The supporting cast is good as well. The movie could have been about 10-15 minutes shorter and certain scenes could have been less drawn out but overall it's a somewhat funny drama which is acted fairly well and deserves a 5.5-6 out of 10.
