After so many years, The Shining is still rated as one of the best horror movies ever made; its sequel was from the beginning charged with a great responsibility, as it was about continuing a story that was created through a careful, incredible and controversial process. Would his sequel be able to achieve it?
Well, as expected, Doctor Sleep manages to be a pretty good movie in its own way. Expanding the fantastic world of The Shining and adding new characters and myths to the inner universe of the film, he manages to create a dreamy and brilliant world full of mystery and brutality. Dr. Sleep manages to create his own story without having to rely too much on the original. It's an entertaining film with excellent scenes and an intriguingly bloody story. Perhaps it doesn't reach such magnitude in certain aspects as its predecessor did, but it manages to establish itself as a very good and entertaining thriller. Stephen King's stories just keep getting better and better.
