"Der Grenzer und das Mädchen" tells the story of a German border policeman, whose life is turned upside down when he meets a Ukrainian girl smuggling people inside the European Union and falls in love with her.
The movie is well done for a tv production. The relationships depicted appear realistic and show a lot of depth. Something about the way it is produced though carries the typical style of a German tv production, perhaps lacking the last depiction of desperation and emotionality to make it even more outstanding. Nonetheless this deals with an important issue of current politics wrapped within personal situtations that seem fully understandable. A task not every film would master like this one.
All in all this is a film that many people should givw a watch, even if I doubt that everybody will understand and accept its message.
