In the past two years the Hallmark Channels have flooded the market with Christmas movies, many with recycled plots and C and D list actors. Holiday Date is one of those movies. The plot, a woman dumped by her boyfriend but frantic to please her parents at the holidays hires an actor to play the absent boyfriend. The actor turns out to be Jewish. The old boyfriend shows up unexpectedly. By then she's in love with the actor. The only differences in Holiday Date and Holiday Engagement are one occurs at Christmas and the other at Thanksgiving and one woman was a fashion designer and the other, a writer. And one has newcomer actors who may never be seen again, I hope, and the other had Bonnie Somerville, Jordan Bridges, Haylie Duff and Shelley Long.
