Taking the Word "Legendary" to a Whole New Level
14 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm currently binge watching all the Dragon Ball films with Broly in them to celebrate the 1 year birthday of Dragon Ball Super: Broly. This is the first of the four-movie set, and by far one of the best Dragon Ball Z movies.

At the start of the movie, we are introduced to Paragus, who warns Vegeta of the Legendary Super Saiyan and persuades him to rule New Planet Vegeta. Goku is also warned of the threat by King Kai, and Goku, being the guy who likes strong opponents, sets out to find him.

Shockingly enough, after a duel between titans, Goku later finds out that Broly, his neighbor in the maternity ward, is the Legendary Super Saiyan. What follows is one of the longest battles in the Dragon Ball franchise, and Vegeta going through a mid-life crisis.

I like how Takao Koyama and Akira Toriyama both made this Broly a force to be reckoned with, and the Legendary Super Saiyan transformation that Broly undertakes is so incredible, and to me, it was the highlight of the movie. The trailer to this movie is incredible as well.

In fact, this movie gained so much popularity, it spawned two sequels: Broly - Second Coming, and the infamous Bio-Broly. I'd recommend watching the Broly films in this order: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly - Second Coming, Bio-Broly, and Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

This movie is battles, humor, and action galore in both Japanese and Funimation dubs alike, but I'd recommend watching this in the Funimation dub. The rock music from Haji's Kitchen in the final battle between two very strong warriors born on the same day as the other doesn't fail to disappoint.

Sure, the final fight is ended in only one punch (Goku was Saitama before One Punch Man was a thing, people), but two childhood rivals duking it out to see who was stronger never fails to get my Saiyan pride kicking in.
