Girl's Blood (2014)
7/10
This was definitely a hidden gem...

When I sat down to watch "Girl's Blood" (aka "Aka x Pinku") I must admit that I had very little to no expectations at all for the movie, given the synopsis of the movie and the movie's cover. But still, I do enjoy Asian cinema, so I sat down to watch this 2014 movie.

Wow. Just wow. This movie really blew me away, and completely took me by surprise. This turned out to be a very enjoyable and entertaining movie. And the martial arts fight sequences were just phenomenal.

Sure, the storyline is not rocket science, but it was actually an entertaining enough story for what it turned out to be. The only thing that they should have left out of the movie was the pointless nudity and the cringeworthy sex scenes. They sleazed down the movie unnecessarily and it was a shame.

Now, the movie starts off with introducing a heap of characters, which seemed odd to me, especially since there was no way of remembering all those names and faces. But that was just a filler sequence, because it really didn't serve that much purpose as you got to know the characters throughout the course of the movie.

As for the fight scenes, then I must admit that I was more than astonished, because they were phenomenal. They were nicely choreographed and equally well brought to life on the screen. And it seemed that the girls were quite skilled in their fighting styles, and it definitely looked real and authentic. So this was a major plus for the movie, and it really carried the movie a great deal along the way.

The movie also have a great cast ensemble to portray the various roles and characters, with the likes of Ayame Misaki (playing Miko), Yuria Haga (playing Satsuki), Asami Tada (playing Chinatsu) and Rina Koike (playing Mayu). I can't claim to be overly familiar with anyone on the cast list, but I did enjoy their performances in the movie and they did bring a lot of charm to the movie.

"Girl's Blood" is definitely an underrated gem in the Japanese action cinema, and if you get the chance to watch this 2014 movie from director Koichi Sakamoto you should do so.

My rating for "Girl's Blood" is a seven out of ten stars.
