Pennyworth (2019–2022)

Doesn't get much better than this

This TV series is a prequel to the Batman series, looking at Bruce Wayne's father (Thomas) and his first encounter with the man who would become the Wayne Butler (Alfred). The first episode is set in 1960s London in an alternate reality that is only slightly askew. Acting, story, and photography are all top notch. I only gave this a 9 because it's the first episode. If it stays this good I'll give it a 10.

OK. The good news is that it maintains its excellence for the first few episodes, but then takes a turn that leads to a rabbit hole from which it never emerges. So I dropped my rating to a 7. It's still worthwhile for the first few episodes, and even when the story deteriorates, the acting is still wonderful.

OK. After a few more episodes I got as far as Season 2 and then had to stop watching. Not only am I disappointed you can see it in the acting. Even the actors are upset about what a bad show this has deteriorated into.

Note to DC - can't you find another name for a major woman besides Martha?
