I'm guessing they just...ran out of money?

High (well, medium) concept based on very rudimentary theory, which would be fine if the movie had any depth or complexity whatsoever. At 50 minutes, it's pretty easy to see where they went wrong -- they simply didn't take the time to develop the plot or the situation. Basically the majority of the running time revolves around people, primarily the female lead, discovering things are wonky, with a small amount of time devoted to actually showing the concept in action and showing how the social order breaks down. Comparisons to the Cube series are apt, except, for all their faults, the Cube movies did actually develop the characters and create solid plots that led to genuine tension. Here, I simply don't care about any of them, don't feel the tension and disorientation the movie obviously wants me to feel, and found the fact that the entire plot essentially being reduced to a monologue describing everything that happened over the months/years/whatever in 20 seconds to be deeply lazy. They basically yadda-yadda'd over virtually everything that happened, up to and including every significant iota of character development.

Oh, and that ending made no sense. Megan had already seen exactly how they got out of the parking garage safely -- she took the elevator. That was the divergent choice. They made no significant choices when they all took the stair...a course that led to an empty level and hysteria. Whoever wrote that ending really dropped the ball, and not just on the rudimentary physics.
