An Unnecessary Invention

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is about an entrepreneur, Curtiss Prentiss, who decides to create a company to market a rocket belt. It's pretty obvious that this idea makes no sense whatsoever. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this product has no practical value. And yet the characters in this movie act as if this all makes sense. I could understand that Prentiss is simply not in his right mind, and that would explain his devotion to the idea. But the other two main characters seem to operate in the real world, and it makes no sense that they would sign on to this project. When your main characters' actions simply make no sense, it certainly detracts from the movie. I kept watching to see if it would somehow resolve itself and make some kind of sense, but in the end the move just seems to fizzle out into pointlessness. Like the rocket belt at the center of this mess, this movie seems to be an invention with no practical value.
