Caught between a pig and a hard place

Warning: Spoilers
"Caught in a Ham" is an American English-language animated short film from 2019. Writer and director if these 4 minutes is Miguel Jiron, who worked in the animationd epartment on the recent Oscar-winning Spider Man aniimation movie, and for this one here he is the man in charge as writer and director. Not his very first work, but certainly his most known thanks to the connection to the famous film it is a little spin-off from. Or should I say spid-off? Well, that one would probably not be as funny as the plays on words involving Spider-Ham and Peter Porker, especially the last one is pretty hilarious. I have not seen the Oscar winning spidey movie, so I cannot talk about connections or anything, but to me this one really felt very inspired by these old Warner Bros cartoons from the Golde Age of Animation, not only because the title screen (Goldfinger anybody?), but also because of the slapstick and comedy. That scene when they switch places after their verbal duo is so Looney Toons with Bugs vs. Elmer or another antagonist. Anyway, there are a few other references to other movies and television shows in here, not gonna go into detail about that much, so I won't spoil the fun for you. sadly, finding these is perhaps the only fun attached to this movie I really had. It is fast, but not really as entertaining as I hoped it would be. The Spider Pig character sure looks hilarious on the pic here, but he is not as great the way he was written here. The story is also rather fast than funny and a plot is virtually non-existent. I did not enjoy this one enough for a thumbs-up. Only watch if you really adored the Spiderverse. I thought it got considerably worse in the second half and the hotdog jokes feels old pretty quickly too. Still the first half was better than the second half. As a whole: Don't watch!
