I only recently discovered 77 Sunset Strip, though I was aware of it. Since I was born in the mid-1950's my TV fare was more along the lines of "Supercar". I have read that the reworking of the show for the 63/64 season killed it. I have to say that while I enjoyed the original cast that I find these final season episodes to be the best. The intro theme and shots are a welcome change. Jack Webb would have done better to either change the shows title or at least had some of the previous cast be in these later episodes on a sporadic basis to provide some continuity. I would have liked it if Jaqueline Beer was retained to be his secretary. Richard Long did appear, but as a different character.
