A giant radioactive octopus rises from the sea and menaces a commercial marine area. The military and local scientists join forces to search for a way to battle the giant octopus that pulls itself up onto a pier and menaces a large area with its radiation. The acting is good as is the script. The special affects of the octopus are excellent and it looks remarkably real. The plot is good but it bogs down because of the inconsequential romantic segments. Only one major problem: octopi are shy and retreat from any threat. A squid is more aggressive and would have made a more logical monster. Of course, who knows what effect radiation might have on an octopus' behavior? Regardless, the sight of the creature crawling up onto the pier is spectacular and is the highlight of the movie
