Pouran Derakhshandeh showcases his ability to weave simple, everyday-life stories into intricate moral labyrinths whose social and political themes, rich on empathy, mystery, tension and paranoia, paint a nuanced and incisive portrait of contemporary Iranian culture that feels intimate, tangible, and breathtakingly immersive.
