Baffling
28 February 2019
Who knows why David Bowers did this flick, it's baffling. From Jeff Kinney and David Bowers, comes the worst Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie in the entire series. This film tries to differentiate itself from the other 3 since its a reboot, but for some reason, has the same camera work, same music, and same opening. No spoilers but the movie literally opens the same way the other 3 have which makes no sense. The acting is horrendous and laughable, standout being Rodrick, not standout as in good, the actor for Rodrick has 'The Room' like acting with his worst line being "You're the worst mom ever" keep a look out for it its hilarious. Jeff Kinney co-wrote this movie, and it shows, he's a good author, but an awful screenwriter, unable to write realistic dialogue and obscure scenes, he even has a cameo in the film, which makes no sense given he portrayed one of the main characters father in the last 2 movies.... The music being something I liked from the first 3 flicks is horrible in this film, it's basically stock music. The comedy is juvenile and feels inappropriate. At one point Greg is accused of scratching up a grown mans car, and rather than being a rational adult and talk to Greg's parents; he makes an attempt to assault Greg, but hey who cares it was in the book. The movies plot feels like it was written by someone who watched a YouTube gaming video from 2011 and went "that popular with the kids!" Being called 'The Long Haul' but moving very far away from the actual plot of the book and making one where Greg goes in a search for his favorite gaming YouTube (I'm not joking), who is obviously a grown adult trying to make fun of the popular gaming video channels. Jason Drucker is the only fun of the film, as he perfectly embodies the Greg that Zachary Gordon embodied in the original 3, the actor for Rowley is awful and his wig is extremely noticeable, but he's not in the movie for long so its fine. The plot sucks, the music is awful, the acting is awful, the production design is awful, everything is bad with this movie. A modern day comparison to 'The Room' if you will. Don't recommend unless you want to laugh at it.
