Mirza's Lady (2016)
1/10
1 for visuals only

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this on Netflix and by the end of it the constant "ooohhhhh Mirzyaaaaaaaaahhhhh" gave me a headache, irratated me and made me fast forward. Dreadful.

The visuals are beautiful but taking punjab out of the folklore was a bad decision. Its like taking Romeo and Juliet, placing one part in Russia and the present in Gibraltar? How the hell does that make sense? The acting atrocious- there was no conflict in Saihbans eyes/face that her brothers were coming to kill her lover, no immediate flash of horror as her brother drops from a horse killed by her lover. She should have been running towards them waving them to stop. No questions or pain for Mirzya for the betrayal as he sees his broken arrows and realises this is the end. No Sahiban running to protect Mirzya for the arrow that is about to hit him. It was soo placid so static so boring. It was alot like the stupid song that they played when the young child shoots his teacher "hota hai hota hai" meaning "Oh it happens"... What?! Killing someone at that age is not something to brush off like spilt tea "Oh it happens". Or when the young, beautiful, poor widow who kills herself leaving behinde her little son the song plays again "Hota hai hota hai..." "It happens". I guess that explains the silly rebuffal and reasons Anils son, Anil K and family gave - "It was something new to India/bollywood audience". Theatre, art, poetry, story telling, folklore is not new! Dont blame the audience and make out its them that cannot see a "good product". What is new is the awful mess you put together/dressed up and tried to sell. But yea i guess instead of accepting the faults it will be brushed as "Hota hai hota hai".
