Weak retread of a Hollywood classic
23 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Fernando di Leo's NICK THE STING is a straightforward Italian copy of the great Hollywood flick THE STING with Newman and Redford. This time around, you get Luc Merenda as the somewhat stilted lead and co-stars including the glorious Dagmar Lassander and a random comedic dwarf. The plot is lifted wholesale from the Redford film, except with the addition of lots of very broad laughs that doubtlessly worked better in this film's native Italy. For a di Leo movie, there's very little in the way of action, although the set dressers have a field day with lots of outlandish elements. A decent cast including William Berger and Hollywood imports Lee J. Cobb and Fred Williamson lift things a bit, but you'd just be better off sticking with THE STING.
