Warning: Spoilers
Not a fan of musicals or Disney films for that matter, but went to see this as there was nothing else on & in fairness, it looked like a decent watch.

Well I'd have to say this film was pretty poor. I mean, I've seen some bad musicals but this tops it. The film was slow, boring, dragging & most importantly, loaded with too many songs that cranked up the run time to a stupid 2 hours & 8 minutes! You'd think for a kids film it'd be shorter, but this one was bumped up too much with too many songs, which like I said, cranked up the run time too much & even made the film seem longer than & more long winded than what it actually is.

The film is the sequel to the 1964 original, Mary Poppins with Julie Andrews playing the role of the title character. So after 54 years in development hell, the film finally gets made.

The story-line to this film is simple, so much so that they justified beefing the film up with people breaking into song & dance every 5 minutes. So it shows really. It was quite annoying & I felt the main story was forgotten about & neglected with scenes that didn't make sense or felt like hold ups that were unnecessary. I also felt the film was too long & dragged, it could've easily have been 30 minutes shorter. The dark tone & gloominess didn't fit this film at all.

The songs were ok, but instantly forgettable. I mean they weren't the memorable ones from the original. I've only seen bits & pieces of the original & even I can remember a good couple of the songs.

The balance between songs & story should've been evenly balanced. Instead of cramming all the songs into the film & to help with the run time overall, they could've either cut the songs down to smaller edits or cut them out entirely based on popularity, they could've been more selective with the basically. & have the finished product you see as Extended DVD Home release.

Overall, a pretty dull, but ok film. 3/10
