Midge is getting serious now. When Joel condescends to tell her he is willing to give it another try, she rejects him again. She is finding her voice more and more and Susie decides she needs seasoning. They go on a tour of comedy clubs from the dives to the Copa. She pushes Susie to open up. She begins to listen to comedians on records. She observes Red Skelton and begins to understand pacing and delivery. It is obvious that although she has the material and the emotion, she has a great deal to absorb.
