Review of Vanish

Sharp Objects: Vanish (2018)
Season 1, Episode 1
Gripping performances and a top notch direction by Jean-Marc Vallée.

Its impossible not to compare "Sharp Objects" to the massively successful "Big Little Lies" and while the story line of the two shows might be completely different, there is enough surrealistic direction to draw comparisons. Jean-Marc Vallee is an amazing director and how he weaves every shot is nothing short of astounding- the present and the past in this show are connected by a very thin line which adds to the mystifying feel of the series.

Amy Adams is no doubt one of the most talented actress of out generation and here too she shines. The bigger surprise however for me was Sophia Lillis who plays Adams' younger version- without saying much, her expressions reveal it all. The show also reminded me of the excellent film "Dolores Clairbone" in which too a journalist is sent to her estranged town- but this show is greatly creepier.

Overall, it was a great pilot and one that has me hooked to the series!
