"What could have been"
10 May 2018
I have to admit I've been pretty disappointed with Season 2 so far. It's been pretty straight-up, superheroish, and coarse. I've felt disconnected from the characters I came to care about in Season 1.

This episode changed all that. It brought us right back to the beautiful non-linear, psychological style of the first season, and did it arguably even better.

"YOU decide what is real and what is not. Your will." Immediately after finding out that his sister's body has been hijacked by the Shadow King for Lenny, we have a glimpse into David's mind as he searches through infinite realities to find something better, for him and his beloved sister. The possibilities range from a homeless man to a suburban dad to the most powerful man on earth. Most, if not all, end in tragedy - if not for David, then for those he cares about most. The Shadow King is always there, lurking in the background, turning David's powers against the world.

In the split second that he visits all these realities and lives all these lives, David seems to come to the conclusion that the course he is on is the best one. Like Syd's maze earlier, he's stepped back, taken a look at his life - and all that might have been - and is poised to come up fighting.
