Season 7 Brings a Brand New George... Sorta
26 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In "The Engagement", Jerry and George kick off the season by making an oath to give up their childish, petty ways and grow up. Both men attempt second tries at failed relationships. Jerry ends up re-breaking up with his girlfriend because she eats peas one by one. George plunges in head first, asking Susan to marry him. Meanwhile, Elaine, Kramer, and Newman scheme a plot to kidnap a dog that barks so much that Elaine can no longer get a good night's sleep.

This is a really strong start to season 7. I've always been a big fan of the "George's engagment" plot-thread and it all kicks off right here! There's not really much not to like about this episode. Everyone's subplot is hysterical. Newman's scenes are simply the best!

This episode tackles the differences we see between single & married men. George sees both sides of this. Initially as an outsider on the pier, admiring the loving couple, then as an insider that can no longer do fun things with his best friend Jerry. These interactions are obviously comedically heightened but I think they are hilarious. This episode reminds me a lot of a future dark comedy, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". In IASIP, the characters are continually trying to change their ways and evolve into better people but always eventually revert back to the terrible human beings that they truly are. This episode (obviously long before IASIP ever aired) is in the same thread.
