Aftershock (2008 TV Movie)
7/10
A Hat Tip to Irwin Allen

Warning: Spoilers
I had never seen a movie based in New Zealand, and so I thought I'd give Aftershock a try. Honestly, I didn't have big expectations, but as it turns out, I was pleasantly surprised. This movie follows a classic formula...following the basic activities of a random group of people leading up to the big catastrophe, then following each in their efforts to survive it. Then, throw in the strong, public safety official who works tirelessly to solve the catastrophe and save lives. This formula was developed and honed by the great Irwin Allen, in movies like Earthquake, The Towering Inferno, and The Swarm, then copied by countless others in the 1970's, and I feel that the creators of Aftershock did a nice job of paying homage.

For a quick laundry list: The acting was good, the CGI of the tsunami was not so good, the story was actually very good, and it tied itself up nicely at the end. Also, the dog survived, something which always makes me like a movie a little more.

Aftershock is worth the investment of time...I give it a 7.
