Eleven Meets Her Mother
10 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In "Dig Dug", Hopper investigates the mysterious labyrinth of tunnels under the town but quickly gets in over his head. Will uses his "now-memory" to look for Hopper with the help of his mom, Mike, and Bob. Eleven leaves home in search of her mother, finding her in a mentally handicapped state. She learns the truth of her and her mother's past. Dustin must trap an ever-growing Dart after he discovers it ate his cat. Lucas tells Max the truth about why the group has been acting so funny lately but she doesn't believe him. Nancy & Jonathan head to a conspiracist to tell him the truth about Barb's past.

Now we're getting somewhere! After a few lackluster episodes to start the season, we actually get some plot development and nice scenes in this one. Eleven's interactions with her mother are pretty heartbreaking and the most moving of the episode. Hopper's scenes are the other memorable highlights. This one was well-acted with little superfluous dialogue or shots.

I am getting extremely tired of all the nudging and winking relating to 80's nostalgia franchises (i.e. Hopper's Indiana Jones-like hat grab, etc.). It really just takes me completely out of it. I know it's suppose to be a homage but it feels too forced. They need to tone that portion back. Other than that, a good hour of television.
