softcore with sci-fi aspirations
29 December 2017
It's the near tomorrow. Michael White recently lost his wife Stephanie. He hires 4Ever Innovations to clone her and implant with her memories. Bethany Montrose is the new sales rep for the company. Colin Sommers is an executive. Dr. Penny Serling is the quirky head tech. Stephanie had actually invented a new chip to capture memories and was killed by her husband who is cheating with another woman. He is looking to steal the chip for himself. Bethany comes to Stephanie's rescue and Michael is killed. The clone with new name Julia White and the revolutionary chip joins 4Ever. Religious zealots are protesting their cloning work.

This is Cinemax trying to do softcore with a sci-fi story. As far as the softcore goes, the girls are pretty and they show off their bodies. There are the prerequisite sex scenes. It's not rocket science and it works as 00's softcore. The sci-fi aspiration is another matter. Apparently, this future company does it all. They do cloning, memory transplant, and advanced VR. The story is trying too much. I don't know who the writers are but I doubt that they've done anything more than porno. The basic metric is that half the time is taken up with sex scene and these half hour episodes have even less time for the plot. The premise needs to be simplified, not complicated. It could keep it just the cloning and that's plenty to digest in this format. As for the acting, the girl are pretty good ... for nude models and strippers. The wacky tech might be useful in a real show. I wouldn't ask most of them to do any real acting. I give them a point for higher aspiration even if they don't achieve it.
