As I've said for 3 seasons, Supergirl has never quite been able to nail the difficult task of building a story line from the beginning of the season to the end. It's much more of procedural show than it is as a serialized show. I mean this mostly in terms of how they progress each season's big bad, because let's face it, there's never truly been a big bad to any season this show has produced thus far. With that said, tonight's episode of Supergirl falls right in line with a show that doesn't have an exact direction, but it wasn't a bad episode by any stretch of the imagination. I think my main thought running through the entire hour though was "what is honestly the point?".

The episode strictly dealt with Alex and Kara's younger selves as they were still at an age of being constantly at odds with one another and deal with high school drama on a regular basis. The plot involved a predator, drugs, and a murder mystery. Where the heck did that come from? Well, it's not something I would have asked for (ever) from this show, but it wasn't as bad as it sounds. The two young actresses they got to play young Alex and young Kara not only look the part, but had solid enough chemistry to hold their own for an episode.

Again, the whole murder mystery and other various criminal activity wasn't necessary and didn't really provide a lot thematically, but this was all about showing the bond between Kara and Alex in a different light. So in that way, it succeeded. Actually come to think of it, this episode felt like something straight out of Riverdale, or any other CW-teen show. And that's pretty much it in terms of plot and things to comment on. It was a serviceable episode (as I love to say oh so often), but nothing I would ever watch again.
