India's orphanage
30 October 2017
Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Academy Award-nominated documentary "An Encounter with Faces" focuses on a group of children in an orphanage in India. The children tell the viewer their histories (some pretty gruesome ones, in fact). Having watched the documentary - it's available on YouTube - I wondered what became of the children. India has made significant economic advancements in the past forty years but still has terrible poverty (in fact, it has more starving people than does sub-Saharan Africa). I would postulate that the children either work as call center operators or live on the streets.

Anyway, good documentary. I haven't seen all of that year's nominees for Best Documentary Short Subject, but this one is worth seeing.
