The film centers on two characters. We are first introduced to Jonah, an unsuccessful nerve racking gambler with an outstanding debt of $93,580. Fortunately he owes it to Kevin Pollak playing Tubby Finkleman. Unfortunately Tubby has a guy Brick (Clé Bennett) to slap people around. Jonah decides to abscond with his 15 year old pot smoking daughter Aurora (Joey King) to take her to Churchill (Canada) to see the beauty of the Norther Lights. Aurora has failing eye sight and it is only a matter of weeks before she is completely blind, setting us up for what will be a bitter-sweet ending. Jonah has not told her all the facts of her blindness, as Aurora resists the road trip...one where our collectors follow.
The film was well acted and a fairly decent drama with elements of comedy. You sympathize with Aurora who manages, in spite of life dealing her a losing hand.
