The tale of a summer

Warning: Spoilers
"Kim Novak never swam in Genezareth's lake" is a Swedish movie dealing with two boys who spend their summer at a house near a lake with the older brother of one of them. When the brother falls in love with their former teacher, who's engaged to a brutal beater, the idyllic life threatens to darken.

I really liked the story of this film. At times it tries to be a bit too artsy and I believe that doesn't necessarily benefit the movie but all in all you can see that a lot of love was put into this production. Unlike many other Scandinavian movies, this one isn't necessarily depressing, although it has its dark moments too. It is quite easy to connect with the two boys, their feelings and actions. If you summarize what happens, you'll find that it isn't actually that much but still you don't ever feel bored or not entertained because the slowed down rhythm of the film is part of its characterization.

All in all this is a reflective coming-of age story that comes with an excellent plot but sometimes exaggerates the indie and art part a bit. Nonetheless it is worth a watch and will leave you richer than it found you.
