Review of Hinako Note

Hinako Note (2017)
7/10
An introverted girl moves to Tokyo
30 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Hinako Sakuragi is a very introverted girl living in rural Japan; she is so introverted that in any situation that is even mildly stressful she will adopt a 'scarecrow' pose… although when does she seems to attract wild animals rather than scare them. Hoping to overcome this problem she moves to Tokyo and starts attending the Fujiyama High School. While there she resides at the Hitotose bookstore. She had hoped to join the school's theatre club but discovers that it is currently on hiatus. Determined to act she encourages the other residents of at the bookstore to form their own theatre club. Over the course of the series they work to do this and put on performances as well as getting into other amusing situations.

This is a gently paced story that has a decent number of laughs in each episode. The story is light-weight in an enjoyable way although once it is over I doubt it will be remembered for long; just like so many similar series that are churned out each season. There is a moderate amount of fan service; it isn't likely to offend anybody but came as a bit of a surprise as for the most part the characters are depicted as cute rather than sexy. The characters are decent enough although, apart from Hinako herself they aren't particularly memorable. Overall this isn't a must see series but I found it enjoyable enough.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
