Here we have the 5-minute music video for the song "Hey Ya!" performed by Outkast and it is still their biggest hit now in 2017, almost 15 years after it came out. The popularity of this little film directed by Bryan Barber is not only obvious through the 250 million views it has on Youtube, but also by the fact that it was nominated for a Visual Effects Society Award back then where it lost to Missy Elliott by the way. I guess the nomination is mostly because of the fact that one band member was included many times posing as an actual band of musicians, background singers etc. I remember really liking the song back then and I still do today I guess. The chorus is really the catchiest thing ever and it is impossible not to get in the groove. But as I am rating the film here, I cannot give 3 stars out of 5 overall I guess. The retro aspect is interesting reminding us that people back then saw in color, even if we see them in black-and-white. The audience shots are a bit forgettable even if the annoyed old woman is somewhat entertaining. The first 40 seconds (pre-concert) are really forgettable. Eventually the green give a nice tone to the video, but still the video site is far from as good as the audible, even if the song is fairly forgettable apart from the chorus. It's not a problem that the song lacks depth entirely though as it is all about the fun and for that I certainly recommend checking it out.
